A Quick Update

My mom's surgery was today. She did well. She is already home. She's quite sore and has been instructed to take it easy (little walking) for the next few days. My sister is there so she will take good care of her. It can take up to two weeks plus for the pathology to come back. I don't do well with waiting.

Little Kaitlyn went to the doctor again today. We seem to be there a lot these days. She weighed in at her highest weight yet 10 lbs 14 oz. She's been playing the gain an ounce lose an ounce game all month. Maybe she can reach 11 lbs before surgery. The last two days she's had this crazy rash. I thought it was because of her low fever and the virus she's been fighting. The doctor said it looks like an allergic reaction to the amoxicillin she was on...lovely! Good thing there are several antibiotics to choose from since she can no longer take anything from the penicillin family...ugh! If its not one thing its another!

  1. Oh, poor little girl. My daughter had the same allergic reaction to amoxicillin and broke out in hives - at least she's too little too scratch herself!

  2. Oh my goodness, you've had a lot on your plate! Before Gabe went in for a VSD repair when he was six months old, we struggled terribly with weight gain. He went into surgery at 13 pounds. We opted for the NG tube feedings to help him along, and it worked.

When Gabe was one year old, he had an allergic reaction to an antibiotic as well. He was covered in hives from top to bottom. So, I can relate to what you're going through...

Anyway, we are sending best wishes for your mom's full recovery.♥

PS. Love the music on your blog!

  4. Morgan had an allergic reaction to Amox when she was an infant too. We tried it again when she was 5 and no problems. I was so happy because the other abx were so expensive and Amox is less than $10. So don't rule it out completely. Her doctor said sometimes they can get a rash with Amox if they have a virus and not bacterial infection. Good luck with the weight gain. We've been there too. We did ng feeds on Morgan to get her up to 10 lbs. for her OHS. And Merry Christmas! :)

  5. Poor little Kaitlyn and poor you. At least you are finding things like that out before surgery. Now you know and can move forward.

Gabriel weighed 12lbs when he had his surgery at 6 months. He did not make it to 13 lbs until he was 8 months old. We are finally gaining weight.

Hold strong. I know that the waiting game is no fun. We are praying for your family.

  6. I'm glad your Mom's surgery went well. I will keep you in my prayers as you await the results from pathology. It must be so hard waiting.

I'll keep Kaitlyn in my prayers as well!
