I see you!

Kaitlyn had a few things going on today. Vent is still in, she developed 2 bacterial infections and has tons of chest secretions. They are suctioning her almost hourly. Doctors are anxious to get her off the vent. She has sprinted well (practice runs), but they are afraid her secretions will be unmanageable with out the vent tube to suction them out of. She had a blood transfusion today (she's anemic, and has had a few problems with her oxygen saturation), they thought the new blood would help with her oxygen levels and it has. Other then that it is a waiting game. She is waking up more, she opened her eyes today and really looked at us for the first time since surgery! She gets uncomfortable from time to time, they are weaning her off of her pain meds hoping that will help her come off the vent. Up until now she's been pretty snowed. Today was an okay day. It could have been worse. We are praying for an excellent day tomorrow.
We are getting a few visitors over the weekend, it will be a nice distraction having them here. I probably won't get to a computer until Monday, so look for an update then.
Thanks again to our amazing support team, and the many people who are praying for our brave little girl. See you Monday!

  2. Oh sorry to hear that she got those infections. I know it can be hard but you are doing great. I will share that Wysdom had 3 bacteria infections and stayed on the vent longer too. He had massive secreations as well. I wonder if they could get PT to help. We had PT come in and tap on the lung area to help move out the secreations and this worked really well and he turned around in a couple of days and then we were sent home. So hoping for the same quick turn around for you!!! Sending prayers for Kaitlyn and for your family in this difficult time.

  3. It is the longest wait, isn't it? And the added worry over the infections isn't helping. But keep faith. Your beautiful Kaitlyn will be up and at 'em in no time! I'm happy to read that she looked into your eyes. That is good for everyone, including Kaitlyn.♥

    We're keeping her in our thoughts, prayers and hearts.♥

  5. Ask about ipv treatments (intrapulmonary percussive ventilation) It looks and sounds weird, but it somehow vibrates the lungs and breaks up secretions that can then be suctioned out. This worked well for Noah when he was on the ventilator. Jill

  7. i pray that's the last of those bacterial infections. And remember you are the mom, if you can tell shes uncomfortable, make them give her pain meds. It's important to wean her off, but not too quickly. Sounds like she's doing incredible though! HUgs and prayers continue...

  8. Infections are no good - praying her little body keeps up the good fight and knocks them out in no time! It's so nice when they can come off the vent. Go Kaitlyn - keep up the good work little one - rest and heal, and you'll be vent free soon :)
    {Max had a lot of drainage, too. He almost left PICU and transferred to the regular floor with them still in.}
