The countdown continues...

Time is going by so fast. Kaitlyn will be here in 23 short days. I am filled with many emotions, primarily excitement!

The 4th of July came and went. My parents were here visiting, we had a nice time...cook-outs, swimming, arts and crafts fair, and fireworks. They even found time to squeeze in Chuck E Cheese for the boys. We save that special treat for visits with the grandparents (smile).

I had two doctors appointments this last week. One was a routine OB appointment, everything went well. That was the first of my now weekly visits. I also had another ultrasound with the high risk OB. I've been going every two weeks. That appt. also went well. They've been monitoring the blood flow in the umbilical cord, the fluid levels, and her growth. All checked out very well. Her weight is estimated at 5lbs 7oz. She gained almost another pound in 2 weeks. She is measuring at gestation! We couldn't be happier.

Other than that things are quiet. We're trying to make summer memories with the boys before their sister's arrival. I'm "nesting" trying to get everything ready, and as long as she doesn't arrive early I think we'll get everything done. Blair's sister and her family are coming to visit this next weekend. The boys always have a great time with their cousins, it should be a FUN time! We can't wait!

  11. I am so glad I came across your blog! I just started one of my own at www.threelittlekings.blogspot.com because my husband and I are expecting our third child. His name is Henry and he also has Down Syndrome. Henry is due in September, not long after your Kaitlyn!

Sending good wishes for a safe and healthy delivery! :) -- Kara

  12. I found your blog through my sister's (purses) and I'm so glad I found it! As I'm sure you know, I was in your shoes just weeks ago and your story sounds similar to mine. Kaitlyn seems to be doing great and I hope she does just as good on the outside. Bennett has the same heart defect and he will be having surgery pretty soon we think. The cardiologist just wants him to get to 10 lbs and then go ahead with it- he's 10.4 now so it may just be weeks. Feel free to ask any questions as it will be fresh on my mind! Many blessings for you and your family!!

  13. Just came across your blog & I'm so glad I did. We have a nearly two-year-old little girl with DS, a 5-yr-old "standard issue" boy, and are expecting a little girl any day now. Ainsley had an AV Canal Defect repaired at 3 months old and is doing great now! She's so adventurous, energetic, and soooo sweet. Can't wait to meet Kaitlyn. Best wishes for your family!

  14. So glad to hear your doctors appointments went well.

Congratulations, a little girl, so sweet!

I was 22 when my daughter Margret was born with DS. We found out about the DS after the delivery, when the doctor who delivered her came into my room to talk to us.

She was my first, her three sisters came after, about two years apart. No, they don't have any extra chromosomes.

Having a child is the beginning of an adventure. This is true for ANY child... the extra chromosome is just a little extra spice.

  15. Becoming 'Grandma' again is an exciting feeling in itself, but I must admit this time it is a little scary too. Getting your little girl was the happiest news I could have heard; then the Ds...my heart ached for you and felt the loss of you being able to raise her like I was fortunate to raise you. I couldn't find the right words---after all I am supposed to protect you from hurt (yes, even at your age). With God's help, and educating myself, I have realized this isn't as much a loss as it is an exciting adventure we are all about to experience together. Love is the key and you know how much of that your Dad and I have to give.
Your strength has actually helped me be strong for you. I too have found comfort in the words of others that have gone through the same thing and now know this is going to be as much fun as it has been with the boys. Yes, I am still scared, and yes, I still want to protect you from hurt, but I know you have a great support system with God as the head. I continuously pray that His arms are wrapped around both of you and will keep you safe. I can't wait to meet and hold our little Kaitlyn.

  16. Hi I am new to this board and blogging. Just wanted to wish you best of luck with the delivery and arrival of your little gem. I also had a prenatal dx. My son is now almost 8 months. Knowing for me was a gift. By the time my son was born, I was totally ready for him and he was and is the most beautiful little baby. I remember hearing his first cry so vividly today.

Sending wishes for a safe delivery
